Apigenin is a bioflavonoid compound that can be found in a variety of plants and herbs. Chamomile tea is very rich in it and exerts anxiety-reducing effects when taken in high doses. At higher doses, it can be sedative. Apigenin is a naturally occurring flavonoid found in a variety of plants in the form of phytoalexin, mainly from the umbelliferous plant dry celery, but it is also found in other plants such as chamomile, honeysuckle, perilla, verbena, and yarrow. Apigenin is a natural antioxidant that has the effect of lowering blood pressure and diastolic blood vessels, preventing atherosclerosis and inhibiting tumors. Compared with other flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol), it has the characteristics of low toxicity and non-mutagenicity.
Chamomile extract apigenin, has long been used for its soothing effect and ability to support the normal tone of the digestive tract. It is used as an after-dinner and bedtime drink.
It is also used to treat a variety of conditions, including colic (especially in children), bloating, mild upper respiratory infections, premenstrual pain, anxiety and insomnia.
